Recent Law Changes
A 3.5 ng/mL THC blood limit for driving took effect on 22 August 2024 after cannabis legalisation: €500 fine, 2 points and a 1-month ban (zero tolerance for novice and under-21 drivers).
The theory-test question catalogue was renewed in April 2025 — trimmed from 1,197 to about 1,040 questions for class B, adding e-scooter, pedelec and THC content and new image questions.
A 2024 reform of the Road Traffic Act (StVG) gave municipalities easier powers to set Tempo 30 zones — for example near schools, pedestrian crossings and playgrounds.
The StVO / Bußgeldkatalog reform raised speeding fines and made blocking the emergency lane (Rettungsgasse) punishable by a fine and a 1-month driving ban.
