Driving Age in Spain 2025 - License Requirements

Minimum Driving Ages in Spain

Cars (License B)

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Can start theory training at 17.5 years
  • Must pass theory and practical tests

Mopeds (License AM)

  • Minimum age: 16 years (15 in some cases)
  • For vehicles up to 50cc and 45 km/h

Motorcycles

  • A1 (up to 125cc): 16 years
  • A2 (up to 35kW): 18 years
  • A (unlimited): 20 years (or 2 years with A2)

Trucks and Buses

  • C1 (light trucks): 18 years
  • C (heavy trucks): 21 years
  • D (buses): 24 years

Getting a Spanish License

Requirements

  1. Residency in Spain (6+ months)
  2. Pass medical exam
  3. Pass theory test (30 questions, max 3 errors)
  4. Pass practical driving test

Probationary Period

New drivers have a 2-year probationary period with:

  • Lower alcohol limit (0.3 g/L)
  • Only 8 points (vs 12 for experienced drivers)
