Driving Age in the UK
Cars (Category B)
- Minimum age: 17 years
- Need provisional driving licence
- Must be supervised by someone 21+ with 3+ years experience
- "L" plates required

Getting Your UK Licence
Step 1: Apply for Provisional
- Can apply at 15 years 9 months
- Receive it at 16
- Valid for 10 years
Step 2: Theory Test
- 50 multiple choice questions (43 to pass)
- Hazard perception test (44 points to pass)
- Valid for 2 years
Step 3: Practical Test
- Around 40 minutes
- Includes independent driving
- One or two reversing manoeuvres
- Must show me, tell me questions
New Driver Restrictions
For first 2 years after passing:
- 6 points = licence revoked
- Must retake both tests
- This "probationary period" is strict
Costs
- Provisional licence: ยฃ34
- Theory test: ยฃ23
- Practical test: ยฃ62 (weekday) / ยฃ75 (weekend)
