Turn Rules in Denmark
Basic Priority Rules
- Equal intersections: Traffic from right has priority
- Main road signs indicate priority
- Yield signs and stop signs override
CRITICAL: Cyclists!
Denmark has extensive cycling infrastructure:
- Always yield to cyclists when turning right
- Check bike lanes before turning
- Cyclists often travel fast
- This is very important in Danish cities
Making Turns
Right Turns
- Signal right
- Check for cyclists in bike lane!
- Yield to pedestrians
- Complete turn safely
Left Turns
- Signal left
- Move toward center
- Yield to oncoming traffic
- Yield to pedestrians and cyclists
Bus Priority
- Buses leaving stops have priority
- When bus signals to leave, you must yield
- Similar to Sweden
At Traffic Lights
- Red: Stop
- Red + Yellow: Prepare
- Green: Go (yield when turning)
- Yellow: Stop if safe
- Flashing yellow: Proceed with caution
Pedestrian Crossings
- Pedestrians have priority at zebra crossings
- Must stop if pedestrian waiting
- Fines for not stopping
Copenhagen Specific
- Very heavy cycling traffic
- "Svingbane" (turning lane) must yield to straight cyclists
- Be extra careful in bike-heavy areas
